ACCESSIBILITY
Accessibility statement for EduCollective
EduCollective is for everyone, so it has to work for everyone. We build it so that you can use the whole platform with a screen reader and with the keyboard alone, and we check every change for it. This statement covers the website educollective.org and the EduCollective app.
Status
We follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. EduCollective is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 AA: almost all of it conforms, and the few parts that do not yet are listed under Known limitations.
What works
- Every page has a "Skip to content" link, clear headings and named page regions.
- Every button, field and link has a name a screen reader can read. Changes on a page, such as search results, a saved form or a new message, are announced.
- Everything works with the keyboard alone, including the map and the calendar. The list view shows everything the map shows, as text.
- Text and controls meet the WCAG contrast minimums.
- If your device asks for reduced motion, moving parts stand still.
- Text that people write is marked with its own language where we know it, so a screen reader reads it with the right voice.
- The security check on our forms shows no picture puzzle.
Known limitations
- The moving topic rows on the start page. They stop while you point at them or move the keyboard into them, and they do not move at all if your device asks for reduced motion. There is no separate pause button (WCAG 2.2.2). Every topic is also listed, without motion, on the page Browse Topics.
- Zoom in the app. In the EduCollective app you cannot zoom with two fingers. Please use your phone’s own zoom instead (iPhone: Settings > Accessibility > Zoom; Android: Settings > Accessibility > Magnification) or a larger text size. On the website, zoom works as usual.
- The security check. Some forms are protected against bots by Cloudflare Turnstile. We chose it because it shows no picture puzzle, but its design is Cloudflare’s, not ours. If it stops you, write to us and we will help you another way.
- What people write. Profiles, activities, groups and messages are written by the people on EduCollective. We cannot make sure that every picture has a description or that every text is easy to read.
How we checked
Our own team checked the platform on 27 October 2026:
- automatic checks (axe-core) on every page in a real browser, and in our tests, which run on every change;
- every main task done with the keyboard alone: signing up, setting up a profile, finding people on the map and in the list, chatting, booking a time, creating a group, changing account settings;
- a simulated screen reader that records what is announced at every step.
We have not yet tested together with people who use a screen reader every day. If you would like to help with that, we would love to hear from you.
Technology
EduCollective is built with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and WAI-ARIA, for current versions of the common browsers and screen readers.
Something does not work for you?
Please tell us: email info@educollective.org or use the contact form on the start page. Say which page it was and what happened. We will look at it and get back to you.
